About i-block Reading
Students who come to the reading room for i-block will join me in a small group each day for 30 minutes. We will work on reading skills that have been determined target areas for the group. Your student will bring home papers related to the specific skills, so look for those in his/her reading folder.
Your student also has baggie books, that will be chosen every Monday and Thursday, unless we don't have school or there is a special event. One or two books. may be at their level, and sometimes they may bring home one that is above their level, so they'll need help. These are books to be read for fun, to practice skills, and to build fluency (getting better at reading). More information about this is in your child's reading folder. Be sure to spend 20 minutes reading with your child, or having your child read, every day!
I will try to keep the blog page of this website updated with dates of special occasions/school events when we might not have i-block.
If you have any questions about the skills focus of your child's group, baggie books, or other reading related questions, please call or email me. My information is on the contact page or email me at [email protected].

About Mrs. Kurtz
I have been teaching elementary students for 17 years, and this is my third year teaching reading at JES. I have a B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Mount Union, an M.Ed. in Special Education from Penn State, and a reading endorsement which I earned through Ashland University. I love working with young readers, and watching their excitement as they unlock all that they can do and realize that the world of books is waiting for them. I also love books and sharing them with others. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with your child.
